“Dance With My Father” is a song by Tamyra Gray. She originally sang it while appearing as a guest on the FOX television drama Boston Public.

“Dance With My Father” is not a Tamyra Gray original, however, but a song by Luther Vandross on his 2003, final album, Dance with My Father. It was derived from the death of Vandross’ late father, with whom Vandross would dance when he was a child, among other fond memories.

Gray’s cover of the song has not made it onto an album yet, though it’s entirely possible that it may feature into some of her future albums.
Nor would she be the first artist to cover the song on a recorded track, as “Dance With My Father” has also appeared among the work of Celine Dion, Steve Brookstein, Scott Savol and Kellie Coffey.

What a shame. Tamyra Grey doesn’t exist. Or, if she does, she isn’t the person you’re probably looking for - the singer, and the American Idol contestant.

True, there is probably a Tamyra Grey out there somewhere. Maybe she’s an actor. Or an orthopedist. A trash collector, perhaps, or a politician in some obscure county in some relatively unimportant part of the world.

Here, though, Tamyra Grey is only one thing: a typo. A terrible, terrible typo.

C’mon. You’re just one letter away from the REAL Tamyra Gray. See the difference?

It’s subtle. But substantial.

Tamyra Grey. Tamyra Gray.

An ‘a’ makes all the difference in this world. Now go click some of the links on the side and read about the Tamyra Gray you were ACTUALLY looking for.

Unlike a lot of Idol stars, Tamyra Gray has managed to scrape up quite a respectable career for herself in the show’s wake. And one of the big contributors to that success was her part in the broadway play RENT.

Appearing from May 2007 to June 2008, Gray had the part of Mimi Marquez, an exotic dancer who is HIV-positive. She acts as the love interest to Roger, a musician who is similarly infected with HIV. She is also addicted to heroin, though over the course of the play she makes a resolution to quit.

The musical ends with one final embrace by Mimi and Roger. Roger believes Mimi to be dead; however she revives, and they embrace in their love.

Gray proved so adept in the part that her original six month contract was extended drastically.
